Live TV gives error "Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly"

Windows Media Center Video Error

When trying to watch "Live TV" through Windows Media Center I receive a Video Error stating: "Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer."

I have done both several times and receive the same error message. I have a Dell TV Tuner and a Dell laptop so I'm doubting that is any of the problem.

I would suggest you to try the following steps and see if it helps.

1.       Click Start,

2.       Type “run” in the Start Search box, and then

3.       Click Run in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

4.       In the Open box, type %systemdrive%\programdata\microsoft\ehome

5.       Click OK.

6.       In the details pane, right-click “mediacenterdatastore.db”, and then

7.       Click Delete.

8.       Click yes to confirm that you want to move the "Mediacenterdatastore.db" file to the Recycle Bin.

9.       Start Windows Media Center

Doing this will rebuild the mediacenterdadastore.db file for Windows Media Center.



You may also follow the suggestion by ‘mrwhitethc’ dated 05-30-2006 4:47 PM in the link given below.


Also, as suggested in the thread reinstalling the display and audio drivers may help.
