Itunes wont open "Apple application support was not found"

I cannot open Itunes from my desktop or anywhere else.  I am getting the response "Apple application support was not found.  Apple support is required to run Itunes.  Please uninstall and then reinstall Itunes again.  Error 2 (windows Error 2)."    I have tried everything including uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing is working.  Help!!!!
I have spoken to Itunes Tech Support several times and they have run through their gammat of possible cures but they came to the conclusion that it is a Windows problem.
Thanks for anything you can do to correct this frustrating problem.  I use Itunes all the time.
