Error when trying to play media file: Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing this file.

i keep getting the message "windows media player encountered a problem while playing this file", and in the media player screen it says "media changing".  what does all this mean?

1. When did the issue occur?
2. Did you make any changes to your machine prior to the issue occurring?
3. What is the format of the file that you are trying to play?
4. Are you playing a file from a CD or DVD or from the Hard Disk Drive?

I'd suggest you follow the steps mentioned below and check if they help.

Step 1:

Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter and check if the issue persists.

Step 2:

Check if the file that you are attempting to play requires any codecs.

Step 3:

Uninstall and reinstall Windows Media Player:

A.
a Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
b. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
c. Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player.
d. Restart the computer

Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

a. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
b Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
c. Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player.
d. Restart the Computer.
