error code:0x80070003 Windows live photo gallery encountered an error and can't start

I am starting to get very frustrated not being able to use the programs that Microsoft is promoting to me.  I cannot run Windows live photo gallery.  Everytime I try to open it it gives me error code:0x80070003 and says "Windows live photo gallery encountered an error and can't start.  How do I resolve this issue so I can use this program?

Was having the same problem running windows 7.

Fix:

  • <start>
  • right click <windows live photo gallery>
  • <properties>
  • <compatibility> choose windows vista sevice pack 2.

I tried running compatibility with win7 put continued getting the error. Win Vist SP2 Fixed it though.

Hi Christbeen,

 

  • Was it working fine earlier on this computer?
  • Did you make any changes to the computer before this issue started?

 

However, you may follow the steps below and check if it helps.

 

Step 1

 

This can happen in the database that keeps track of the pictures and videos in your collection becomes corrupted. You can rebuild your database by following the steps below:

 

a.    Click Start and Click on Run.

b.  In the Run box paste this command and click on Ok. “%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Photo Gallery” (Without quotation marks)

c.   Right click Pictures.pd5.

d.  Click on Rename.

e.   Change the file name to OLD_Pictures.pd5.

f.   Open Windows Live Photo Gallery.

 

Now Windows Live Photo Gallery will rebuild its database. Restart the computer and check if you can open Windows Live Photo Gallery.

 

 

Step 2

 

Repair Windows Live Photo Gallery.

 

 

   a.   Click on Start and go to control panel and select remove programs.  

   b.   Scrowl down to "windows live essential" and select  it as if you wanted to uninstall it.  

   c.   You will get a selection to either uninstall or repair.  

   d.   Select repair. 

 

After the repair, restart the computer and try to open Windows Live photo gallery and check if it helps.
