C00D1199

When attempting to play almost any media file either audio or video, using almost any codec, including those that were previously played without a fault I now always get this error message claiming that the file is not supported or the codec is not known.  I can now no longer play any of my music or video files using Media Player.

I am running the 64bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium.  I have tried to remove and re-add the media player but the fault remains.  In desperation I have tried to replace the codecs for all files but without success.  I would like to delete and completely re-install media player but would prefer not to have to re-install windows completely, if no other solution can be found.
