Hi Charlesdurbin,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

As I understand that you have a performance issue with your computer and Internet.

It would be grateful if you could reply to these questions to assist you further.

1. Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
2. Which version of Internet Explorer are you using, if you are using Internet Explorer?
3. Is it confined while accessing any particular application?

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Optimize Windows 7 for better performance: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Optimize-Windows-7-for-better-performance

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again, any data files that are infected may be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to perform a clean boot and check if it helps.

Clean boot will check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.

How to troubleshoot problems using clean boot in Windows 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: Once the troubleshooting is done, make sure that you try the step 7 in the article to reset the computer as usual

Method 3:

Run the Internet Explorer performance troubleshooter and see if that fixes the issue: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Internet-Explorer-Performance-troubleshooter

Method 4:

Optimizing Internet Explorer and check if it helps

How to optimize Internet Explorer?: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213

Note: Please note that running Reset Internet Explorer Settings will reset all user-defined settings including those set by installed extensions, toolbars and other add-ons to IE Defaults. This includes all Security, Privacy and Zone settings. Also this will clear browsing history, delete all temporary Internet Files, cookies, form data and especially all stored passwords
