Windows 7 - LAN connection speed indicator in start bar not there

I am using Windows 7 on multiple machines (64 and 32 bit). The LAN icon is visible in the taskbar. In XP the LAN icon showed the name of the LAN and its connection speed. Windows 7 only seems to show the name of the LAN - no speed.

Can I get the speed to show up on the icon (e.g., Speed 1.0 Gbps)? If so ... how?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Answer
This feature was removed with Vista. Start task manager and go to the network tab, there you can see the speed of the network connection.
