WEI can't be computed video playback performance could not be measured

I've been trying to get the WEI assessment to run on my computer with no luck so far. I've tried freeing space on my primary hard drive, the graphics card drivers are up to date, no extra codecs are installed to my knowledge and previous answers haven't yielded anything new to try. Any and all assisstance would be greatly appreciated; I'm stumped.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community Forums.

It looks like Windows Experience Index is not working, video playback performance could not be measured.

Let's analyze and identify the cause of the issue.

This could be an issue with the faulty video adapter. It could also occur if there is any third party program conflicts.

Method 1:

Update the Video Adapter driver to the latest by visiting the manufacturer’s site.

Refer the link below for more details on updating a driver:

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

Method 2:

Place the computer in clean boot and check for the issue.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Note: Once you are done with clean boot, please follow the section ‘How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot’ under ‘more information’ in the article to put your computer back to normal startup.

Hope this information helps. Do get back to us if you have more queries regarding Windows.

Is the WEI assessment the only problem ?
Can you use the card normally ? Does it work  as expected with performance in games ?

Saying that none of the suggestions you have read have been helpful is not instructive.
Unless you want to read all the same suggestions again you need to list what you have
already tried, such as -
- Have you run Disk Cleanup, or manually deleted the files from your
User \ AppData\ Local\Temp folder ?
- Have you disabled the Page File ?
- What can you tell us about   mediaex  ? Is there an application installed that relates to it ?

- Which AMD.ATI graphics driver do you have installed ?
- Personally, I would not follow the instructions in the link above when updating graphics drivers.
Using Windows Update may be good for some things, but not graphics or motherboard drivers.
Setup Windows Updates so it will not download and install the 'optional' updates automatically.
- It is not desirable to allow Windows to check for graphics card updates either. Visit the mfg's
download site when you feel there is a need to update the graphics drivers, or if you are having
issues with new release games, and download a WHQL version. Avoid BETA unless you want to
bug check for the mfg. In-spite of what is often said, the latest is not always the greatest.
-Programs and Features is the best place to uninstall graphics driver from.
The only time I would use Device Manager to uninstall graphics drivers is if I had to uninstall
via Safe Mode because I could not boot into Windows normally.

"no extra codecs are installed to my knowledge "
- Once you get it sorted out you should install the Win 7 Codec Pack as it may help prevent
other issues in future.

Windows 7 Codec Pack for Windows Media Player WMP12 and Media Center

Thanks for your feedback.

My apologies for not being descriptive enough in my original post.
I'm using the Catalyst control centre to keep my graphics drivers update and yes it does work while playing games and as my display output.
The driver version I am using is 9.12.0.0 from AMD with a date of 19/12/2012

I had just run Disk cleanup-up prior to making the post as I saw it was something people had recommended.

Typing in mediaex into the search bar returns no results, I've never heard of this, what should I look for?

As for the clean boot that Winston recommended my WEI still did not calculate.

And finally I have been using a page file, I'll disable all that now though and rerun the assessment. I'll update if it works.

Thanks a lot for your help guys, I appreciate it greatly!

Running the WEI with the page file deactivated still failed.

It may be pertinent to add that it fails at Windows Media Player Decoding though.

Again Thanks for your help.

Sorry - I wasn't actually recommending disabling the Page File. The opposite. There are those
who disable the Page File because they are a bit paranoid about too many writes on their SSD,
or who think they don't need one when they have a lot of RAM.
It's best to keep a Page File enabled. You could set it up on your WD HDD instead of the SSD
probably without any noticeable performance difference.

"Typing in mediaex into the search bar returns no results, I've never heard of this, what should I look for?"
- I just saw it failed in the benchmark - It's there below the two bold print lines. All I found with a
quick search was reference to a download site, so I thought you may have an application from them.

Personally, if everything is running properly, and you are getting the performance that should be expected from your graphics card, don't worry about WEI.  It's not really important.
If something is not running properly troubleshoot the problem.

Hmm - Not sure which driver you have there.  WHQL version 12.10 was released on 10-22-12,
and the next WHQL was 13.1 released on 1-17-13

Previous driver releases -

Current WHQL -

Just noticed - Although it does seem to involve Media Player the problem with WEI benchmarking
could come  from the OC on your cpu.
btw - Memory controllers are less touchy now that they are on the cpu, so running mismatched
quantities is less likely to cause lower performance than when the memory controller was on the
motherboard ,  but RAM mfg's  still will not guarantee stability unless the RAM is bought in
matched sets. If the 'extra' 4GB is the same model, with the same voltage and latency
you should be OK, but if not, keep it in mind as a potential source of stability problems.
