Trying to boot windows 7 64 bit to safe mode

My purpose is to address "input not supported" error box on Acer monitor.  Per online tips I depress F8 and hold it on reboot prior to Windows logo appearing but it doesn't go to safe mode {I have tried this step repeatedly] .  If it matters my computer is Dell x8500  i7-3770 and I have the video cable plugged into the 1GB NVIDIA GeForce CT graphics card via an adaptor that came with the computer. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Answer

You can access safe mode from normal mode by selecting Start, Run, type msconfig and press the ENTER key. Click the Boot tab and check the box before Safe boot, click on Apply and OK and restart your computer.

To revert to normal mode you follow the same procedure except that you uncheck the box before Safe boot.
