Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams
Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary
technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a
Microsoft Agent or
Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an
official
Microsoft global customer service number.
Hello. Yes, it is possible to 'move' your Windows XP Mode customized VHD to another Windows 7 Pro computer. But it really depends on your intentions. Are you wanting to keep this single VHD as-is and only move it to another computer? If that is the case,
then here is what you need to do:
Shut the virtual machine down (do NOT hibernate it)
Locate the VHD file and back it up to an external drive, or copy it to the target PC across the network.
Install Virtual PC on the target Windows 7 Professional PC.
Create a new virtual machine and at the "Add a virtual hard disk" screen. choose "Use an existing virtual hard disk".
Choose the backed up Windows XP mode VHD as the existing virtual hard disk.
Finish the New Virtual Machine wizard and start up the VM.
But, if your intentions are to deploy a customized Windows XP Mode virtual machine to a few, or many, Windows 7 Professional PCs, you will want to read the "Deploying Windows XP Mode for Small and Medium Businesses" since that is an advanced type of deployment.
The documentation is on Technet in the form of a Microsoft Word DOCX file located here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=21529
Good luck!
