How Do I Unlock DEP; DEP Window Bullets Grayed-out; Want To "Turn On DEP For All Programs and Services Except Those I Select"

Under Start, Computer, Properties, Advanced System Settings, Performance, Settings, Data Execution Prevention (DEP)...  The bullet functions grayed out and it seems DEP is Locked.  Yet one can disable DEP using bcdedit.exe which MS has written a brief article on how to do it.  I'd like to use this select method rather then disable DEP over the whole machine.

Anyone know how to fix this 'feature'?  Thanks.

Answer
Answer

Open Cmd In Administrator

If DEP is grayed out then try this: RUN this in CMD

When enabling:

            bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn
            bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx optin

When disabling:

            bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

To Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

Click Add to add the programs (32 bit) that you do not want to use the DEP feature. Navigate to the program's .exe file that you want to add to the DEP exclusion list and    select it, and then click on Open.Click on OK to apply.

10. Restart the computer to apply changes
