Exe files open with different programs

Original title: my registry is now associating all exe files with notepad including regedit in win 7, is there a config file i can access from note pad to fix this?


I'm afraid to shut of my explorer windows and restart in safe mode.

Method 1:


When you run an .exe file on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7-based computer, the file may start a different program



Method 2:

Method 3:


Run a virus scanner and check:

Virus is known to cause these issues. Scan your computer from Microsoft Safety Scanner, which helps to get rid of virus, spyware, and malicious software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires after 10 days from the date of installation.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.


Method 4:

Check if the issue persists in a New user profile.

Fix a corrupted user profile
