After Windows 7 SP1 Store to Ram (STR) sleep mode S3 does not work

S3 STR sleep mode does not resume after applying Windows 7 SP1.  It worked up to SP1.
The power supply starts normally, screen remains black, and the HD activity light does not flicker.
Also, using the front panel power switch does not recover.  The only means of recovery, so far, is to remove the power plug for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

Note: this is a sleep (S3) STR problem, not a hibernation problem and probably is a function of SATA Raid 0 configuration

System:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA P55A UD4P.  Award BIOS version F14, date 9/16/2010

CPU: I5-750.  OS Windows 7 Professional +SP1

Hard drives: 2 WD Caviar Black 500MB SATA-2 drives in a Raid 0 configuration on Intel driver chip.

Video card ATI Radeon HD 5570.  Updated driver:  1/25/11 Ver 8.821.0.0

Memory: 2x2GB Patriot 1600LL Series

Additional information:

Critical Event 41 – “The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.” (because I removed and reapplied power).  This event was probably caused by recycling power.

Hybrid Sleep

Can anyone supply any information/help about the above bug?

Hi,

Disabling Hybrid Sleep has helped few in resolving such issue. Let’s try the same and check.

a. Click on start button, type power options and press enter.
b. Click on Change plan settings of your power plan.
c. Change advanced power settings in the next window.
d. In the Power Options window, click on plus sign next to Sleep option.
e. Now again click on plus sign next to Allow hybrid sleep. Select Off for the settings under Allow hybrid sleep.
f. Click on OK button.

First of all Hybrid Sleep(S1) is another name for Hibernation(S1).  Hibernation
requires a file called Hiberfil.sys, which is as large as the amount of RAM
you have.  I turn OFF hibernation and removed hiberfil.sys on the original
installation.  It is the very first thing I do.  The best way to do this is to open
a cmd window under Admin and type Powercfg -h  Off

In addition, My system has no problem going to sleep (S3).  It also has no
problem waking up except the RAID 0 does not start (no disk activity light).
The reason I know there is no problem going to sleep is When I set my
defragger to run at boot time and I recycle the power, it still works.
I still have this problem.  I believe it is associated with RAID 0.

Did you try the hotfix?

Hotfix KB2495523 does not solve this problem.
if you read the description it applies to Hibernation, not Sleep (S3).
I removed it after verifying it did not work

To anyone with this problem.  there are lots of us.
The only way I found to recover was to hold the power button in until the
system shutsdown AND remove the powercord from the back of the PC
for 10 seconds then restart as normal.

Hey Lhgordon,

Any luck with this? I'm having the same issue. I don't want to avoid the problem by disabling sleep/hybernate. I would like to resolve the problem, This only started after SP1.

I can get my sys to restart easily, but when i do, my three RAID 1 mirrors have to resync. Scary, since the whole reason I have RAID 1 is to protect the data. I'd hate to have SP1 cause my disks to break mirror and somehow lose date.

thx
