I have been running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with 4GB of memory since Windows 7 launch. Overall, the performance is pretty acceptable. I tend to be a person that has a lot of applications opened at once. And I just leave them open/running 24/7 for the most part until a reboot or computer crashes. Most of the time its Visual Studio 2010 Professional, Sql Server 2008 R2, Adobe Reader with a few e-book windows, and FireFox with "a lot" of open tabs. I seem to always end up having at least 10 different tabs open in the Firefox browser when I go to close it.
Would doubling my ram increase my performance enough to justify the cost of doubling my memory?
What tools can I use now to tell me how much memory Im using and whether or not hard/drive trashing is even occurring as a result of an excessive amount of open software programs and tabs in the Firefox application? Thanks for all help.
