"Your folder can't be shared." error in Windows 7 Home 64 bit

When I use a certain program, it shows all my files and folders that I created. However, outside of that program, or with Windows Explorer, I can't find any of my files and folders. I've learned that I need to change the sharing setting from 'Nobody' to some people or everyone. However, when I try to share a folder or file, it says, "Your folder can't be shared." I followed the instructions given at a link (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network/thread/500ef174-da97-441e-abc6-bfd079d37f7c), but it then gives me the error message:

"An error occurred while trying to share _______. The system cannot find the file specified.

The shared resource was not created at this time."

b. Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.

c. Click Edit.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

d. Click the name of the person you want to give ownership to.

e. If you want that person to be the owner of files and subfolders in this folder, select the’ Replace owner on subcontainers and objects’ check box.
