The Truth Windows 7 Home - Joining Workgroup

All I want are direct answer yes or no, I do not want to read any how-to’s, explanations, or instructions. My current network does on support Home Groups.

Can Window 7 Home Premium join a workgroup?

If so can the workgroup have a name different than "WORKGROUP"?

I have tried followed some instructions on how to setup a workgroup but my system does not have the configuration option illustrated in these instructions.  Login as an Administrator, From control panel I open up Systems and the button for changing the Network ID is grayed.  When I right click on the Start menu select Properties I receive the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties which does not contain any links to system properties.

Answer

Yes you can change the workgroup name and join a workgroup. Open the Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings (at the right middle) > Computer Name window > click on Change and modify the workgroup name to match your new or existing workgroup. This screen shot is from my Win 7 Home Premium laptop.
