How to Change node from Peer to Peer to Hybrid?

I have a home network that consists of a combination of Windows 7 and Windows XP computers.  On all but one of my Windows 7 computers I am able to see All of the computers on the network - both Windows 7 and XP computers and Shared devices.  But one Windows 7 computer only shows the Windows 7 computers.

Also when trying to access the one Windows 7 computer from another computer on the network - I get that it is not accessible.

I have compared all the networking settings, verified that all of the computers were grouped into the same Workgroup network.

I verified that all the computers show up on my wireless routers Allowed & attached systems.

The only difference I can find is all of the computers that can communicate with each other have a Node type of Hybrid and the one computer that doesn't play well shows as a Peer to Peer Node Type.

How do I change the Node Type on my one Windows 7 computer from Peer to Peer to Hybrid?

The Microsoft Windows 7 troubleshooting leaves something to be desired when trying to find this information.

Please let me know.

Thank you,

Hi,

Thank you for posting this question on Microsoft Community Forums.

I see that you want to know how to change the node type of a Windows 7 computer from peer-to-peer to hybrid.

Let us work together to resolve this issue.

However, we need more information on this issue. Please answer these questions.

1.     Where did you see that the node was set to peer-to-peer connection?

2.     How is the computer connected to the network?

3.     Does the computer have any firewall?

4.     Does the router have any firewall?

5.     What is the node type in the router settings page?

6.     Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

Please get back to us with the answers as they are important for us to resolve this issue.

Method 1: Run the Network Troubleshooter.

Follow the steps to perform Network Troubleshooter.

Why can’t I connect to a network?

Why can't I connect to other computers?

Method 2: Temporarily disable the computer’s firewall and check if the issue is resolved.

If the issue persists, re-enable it and disable the router’s firewall and check if the issue is resolved.

Also, disable both the firewalls and check if the issue is resolved.

Important:

1.     You should not turn off Windows Firewall unless you have another firewall enabled. Turning off Windows Firewall might make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage from worms or hackers.

2.     In addition to a firewall, you also need an antivirus and anti-malware program to help protect your computer. Install Microsoft Security Essentials or another antivirus and anti-malware program, and keep it up to date. Many of these programs update automatically.

Please get back to us with the results.
