Cannot ping Windows 7 machine from XP machine - timeout

New Windows 7 Home Premium machine... in workgroup with XP Pro machines... I can connect shared folders between, and from, all machine 7 & XP.  Network and Internet connections are all fine; win7 & XP.  From the Windows 7 machine, I can successfully ping all XP machines.  I CANNOT ping the Win 7 machine name, or IP address, from an XP machine on the network.  Ping simply timesout.

I am perplexed...   Network discovery is turned on.

I find it odd that I cannot ping the 7 machine, but I can connect the shares and see the machine on the network and using NET VIEW command.

Any insight is appreciated.

Actually I was having the exact problem.  But since I was in a domain I used the one under Domain profile and it worked.  -- Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Advanced settings > Inbound Rules and enable File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In) in the Domain profile.

Gurulite if you are in a domain then this should work for you.
