I have a friend that has Windows 8, and he uses the same network. In Windows 8, you can create/join a HomeGroup. But can Windows 7 connect to a Windows 8 HomeGroup? Or does Windows 8 have to join a Windows 7 HomeGroup?
All Windows 7 editions supporting Homegroup(*) can join any Windows 7 or Windows 8 Homegroup and vice versa.
It is up to you if you want to create a Homegroup on Windows 7 and join Windows 8 computers to it, or if you want to create Homegroup on Windows 8 and join Windows 7 computers. Homegroup functions do not depend on which Windows version it is created, it
works the same way whether created on 7 or 8.
(*) = Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic editions can join but not create Homegroup.
