"Windows cannot connect to printer. Operation failed with error 0x00000866", installing a network printer

I have a laptop with windows 7 Professional.

When I try to install a network printer I always get the message "Windows cannot connect to printer. Operation failed with error 0x00000866".

What can I do to solve this problem

Hi ETPM,

 

You may try the following steps and check if it helps.

 

Method 1:

You may try running the Printer trouble shooter and check.

Refer the link:

Open the printer troubleshooter:

Method 2:

Error message when you try to install a network printer on a Windows Vista-based computer: "Windows cannot connect to the printer Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000000d)"

Note: You may refer this article and try the steps for Windows 7 also.

 

Important: Some serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow the steps in the above mentioned link carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Method 3:
