Windows 7 Print spooler will not start : System error 1068 has occurred. The dependency service or group failed to start

Hi,

 

I am still having the "System error 1068 has occurred. The dependency service or group failed to start"

I am using Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit and my printer is HP PSC 1310 series".

I downloaded the latest driver in HP website but it will not continue installation as the print spooler is not started.

I tried "restarting the print spooler under services, it does not work, with the above error message

I check the dependencies and it only say HTTP and RPC

I check further on RPC and both dependencies DCOM Server Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper is started

i went to regedit and found the keys as follow which I don't know if its correct :

I go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, there is nothing there for me to delete.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated...

Hello yan_dao69,

I suggest that you try the below methods to fix the issue.

Method 1:

I suggest that you run the Printer troubleshooter. This will automatically diagnose and repairs problems with printing:

This would ideally fix the issues related to print spooler service.

Method 2:

I suggest that you disable the Antivirus software temporarily and check if you are able to start the Print Spooler service. You can refer the below link that will give you information Disabling antivirus:

Note: Please make sure that you enable the antivirus software after performing the test to keep your computer protected.

Method 3:

Check the Spooler dependency services in registry.

a.     Click Start, type regedit in the Search box, and then press ENTER.

b.     Locate and then click the following registry key:

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler

c.      Right-click Spooler, click Export, Save a backup file on your desktop.

NOTE: If an unexpected issue be encountered after modifying registry, please double click the file to restore the backup.

d.     In the details pane, if the DependOnService value shows values of RPCSS and other key, right-click DependOnService, and then click Modify. 

e.     In the Value data box, delete other key, and then click OK. 

f.       Exit Registry Editor.

Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
