Windows 7 does not recognize SimpleTech 250GB external USB drive

I have read the threads on this topic, and I have not seen anyone else able to get this to work.

Just bought a new computer, running Win 7.  Drive worked fine on Win XP.  I checked in device manager but the real problem is that there is no driver for the Simple Tech drive.  They must have been bought by Hitachi, as simpletech is now a legacy product and not supported.  I find it hard to believe that a external USB 2.0 drive can't work with Win 7.  There must be another driver we can use to get this drive to work.

Tried other USB ports, still does not work. Rebooted, turned on or off before and after restarting... etc. nothing matters.  It shows in device manager with a yellow !, but can't get any farther.

Interestingly enough it shows a "mass usb storage" device under usb controllers.  see pic:

Is it really possible that this drive will never work with Win 7?

Thank you for your help.
