Windows 7 cannot recognize my keyboard

Hi,

I recently got a new usb keyboard. But when I connected it to my computer, windows recognized the name as "SteelS쀁̄Љ̒DATA". Thus it cannot find the driver for this device. (error code: 28)

I have tried to install some general drivers (e.g. HID keyboard device) for this usb keyboard manually, but none of them work. (error code: 10 this divice cannot start) Since this is just a simple keyboard, there is no specialized driver.

I also tried to connect this keyboard to many other computers, and it worked fine with them. It was automatically recognized as "usb input device". Actually I can also use this keyboard before windows was started (e.g. press F8 to select start options). So I think it is just some problem with the system.

Is there a way to make windows know that it is a keyboard?

Hi,

What is the make and model number of the keyboard?

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Run the fixit from the following Microsoft article and check if it helps.

Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/

Method 2:

Run the hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter

Method 3:

Try uninstalling the Universal Serial Bus (USB) keyboard driver from the Device Manager and check if it helps.

Follow the steps to uninstall the Device driver from Device Manager:

a.       Click Start, type devmgmt.msc in the search box, and press Enter.

b.     In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

c.      Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.

d.     Restart the computer.

e.     Plug in the keyboard, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

And also try connecting the keyboard in a different port and check if it helps.

Hope the information is helpful.
