Windows 7 - Bluetooth device driver is no longer recognized or device won't start.

Laptop: ASUS G73SW-A1 / 8GB RAM / Windows 7 Home Premium / Windows 7 Ultimate

Any Bluetooth adapter.  I have 8 of them. I am serious.

The problem is that Windows 7 no longer recognizes certain bluetooth adapters and there is no way to repair the Microsoft Bluetooth stack installation. Some adapters will work using 3rd party Bluetooth stacks, but that doesn't resolve the original issue.

Example Adapters: ASUS BT-211 Atheros (USB\VID_0CF3&PID_3000&REV_0200)

Any CSR Bluecore Devices (Cambridge Silicon Radio Limited)
        CSR 3.0 (USB\VID_0A12&PID_0001&REV_1915)
        CSR 4.0 Device ({473a6b1d-3407-400e-b91a-f991c5a39dc3}\CsrBtPort)

                            Cirago BDS-7300 (USB\VID_0A12&PID_0001&REV_6817)

Scenario: The driver loaded once upon a time for the BT211 and the device worked. Now Win7 doesn't even recognize the device even if the ASUS drivers are loaded.

I purchased a few other Bluetooth Adapters from Bluetooth 2.0 CSR to Bluetooth 4.0 Low Power CSR adapters and the drivers load but Bluetooth does not work in Windows 7. I can't even get them to start.

On a fresh install of Windows 7 all of these adapters work, some of them auto-install drivers and work fine. Others work fine on other other Windows 7 desktops with no issues.

The problem is I have seen this happen to more than one system and I have seen no Microsoft Fixit in regards to Bluetooth on Windows 7.

I did find a HOTFIX update for it but it won't install. '

I have the same problem not being able to find any bluetooth devices. I have checked the bluetooth device with other computers.

Windows 7 Home x64
IOGear Bluetooth Dongle GBU521 4.0
I have all Bluetooth Support Services Started
I have Discoverable BlueTooth option checked.

Cannot apply hot fix KB980396 as it says it's not applicable.

What are some definite solutions for this as it seems like a Microsoft pnp layer problem
