Windows 7 64bit will not recongnize my Canon MF 5770 Driver

I am trying to install my Canon Multifunction MF 5770 on my new Dell Latitude E5500 machine which is running with Window 7 64bit operating system.

I searched for the driver on Canon website, downloaded it to my hard drive and uncompressed it to a folder.

When I connect the MF 5770 via USB it tries to find the driver and doesn't recognize the driver on my local computer and suggest to find the driver online. I searched it again online and went to Canon website again and download another copy of the driver. Window still won't recognize the new driver.

I have tried the manually to add the printer via hdwwiz, and browse to the folder where driver is saved. The setup information files in that folder are only 3 kb, 20 kb and 3 kb for printer, scanner and fax respectively. I tried to install the drviers and get the error message: error 0x00000002 "printer driver was not installed"

Please help.

Did you follow the steps that were outlined on installation?

Before starting the driver installation, connect only the LAN cable first, do not connect the USB cable at this time. This is necessary for your printer to acquire IP address automatically before you start the driver installation and enable driver installer function. Driver and application software files have been compressed. The following instructions show you how to download the compressed files and decompress them. 1. Connect the printer to your network using LAN cable. (If applicable) 2. To download files, click [I Agree-Begin Download] icon, select [Save], and specify the directory where you want to save the file. Click [Save] to start the file download. 3. Downloaded files are saved in the specified folder in a self-extracting format (.exe format). 4. Double-click the files to decompress them. A new folder will be created in the same folder. New folder has the same name with the decompressed file. 5. Install the printer driver according to 'Readme.txt' stored in the folder. 6. After the drivers have been installed, connected the USB cable to the printer. (if necessary)
