Webcam not detected because USB "Unknown Device" isn't working... "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Hi,

I've been having a problem that I've been trying to fix myself for months but I've decided it would be better to just ask for help.

So a while ago I noticed that my computer (Toshiba Satelitte L755-S5362, Win 7 64 bit) was getting that USB bug, where windows thought I was trying to plug something into my USB and it wasn't recognizing device, when really I wasn't doing anything with any of my USBs, and then windows would crash. Literally nothing I was finding online worked to fix it, so I got around this by disabling 2 USB ports (which would cause my webcam to not be detected,  but it was fine because I could use enable them later). Lately, I started having issues with sound on my videos (both in browsers and on my actual computer), where the sound would play fine for 5-10 minutes, but cut out. I suspected it had something to do with that USB port, so I tried rolling back the driver on it (this was a few weeks ago).

Big mistake I guess. Now I can't update the driver at all and the device (Unknown Device) has that yellow caution sign over it. I've tried the trick of uninstalling the device & restarting the computer, but every time windows is unable to download/install the driver for it. (Searching automatically for drivers has never worked for any of my devices) I can't do a system restore because I don't have a restore point far back enough to before I did this. And now nothing will detect my webcam (it's built in).

Oh and after all that the sound still has that issue, so I have to use headphones all the time lol

I've tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems?wa=wsignin1.0 and it won't even run, I keep getting some kind of bootstrap error?

I have a bunch of windows updates on my laptop that are never able to download (windows gives up during the process and restarts) so that may also have something to do with it, too.

I have also tried sfc/ scannow and windows could find no issues

The location is Port_#0004.Hub_#0003

Help?
Hi,

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some
manner. For more information about how to diagnose the problem, see the hardware
documentation.
On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start
the troubleshooting wizard.

Check with Toshiba Support, their on-line documentation and drivers, and ask in their forums
about any known issues. This is usually a driver, BIOS, chipset, or hardware issue.

Hi,

For just the camera issue if still present when the USB is resolved - remember the camera
is a USB device.

Troubleshoot camera connection problems
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Troubleshoot-camera-connection-problems

You probably need to reload the camera drivers and any camera control software (usually included
with the drivers and installed at the same time).

Hope this helps.

Hi,

It looks like you have hard drive issues. Run CheckDisk (chkdks /f /r ) in Advanced Mode
or better use the Manufacturer's Diagnostic Utilities or use the  trial versions below.
If the disk issues can be cleared then run sfc /scannow again. If no then you need Toshiba
Support of the help of a real computer shop (one that does its own in-shop service).

------------

For even better and more efficient checking :  <- Advanced Methods.

From the Command Prompt of the Recovery Console (if you have one) or from a Vista/Windows
7 disk - if you do not have a Vista/Windows 7 disk you can borrow a friend's (it needs to be same
32 or 64 bit and they are not copy protected) or make one. Also your System maker will sell the
physical disks cheap since you already own Windows.

chkdsk /f /r

REBOOT

Go into Setup/Settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 as you boot so watch screen as you startup. Set the
boot order to CD/DVD to use Windows disks (Vista or Windows 7 whichever you have installed.)
Remember to set back when done.

If you need to make repair disks - these help repair Windows not re-install.
Often a these disks will help when the OEM Recovery Disk does not.

Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs - now charging $9.75 for the ISO
images to make the disks. (These can be made on any computer running XP,
Vista, or Window 7 that has a CD/DVD burner.)

A Installation Disk can also be made to use for Repair. Of course you would use your own

May sound funny but it worked for me, so give it a try and if it works let me know ok?

Right click Computer -> Manage

Go down to Device Manager then right click on the Unknown Device, select Properties.

There are 3 tabs : General , Driver , Details. Click Details.

Under the Property scroll, select Hardware Ids. Now mine said ACPI / TOS6205. Which requires a Bluetooth Stack driver and it sounds irrelevant, but when I found and set up the required driver to fixed that, which means after that there was no Unknown Device problem any longer, my webcam started working.

So again I hope it helps as it helped me, let me know if it was luck or I tapped into the real deal OK.
