"Use Serial Keys" is missing in Windows 7

Original Title: Is there a way to enable the option to "Use Serial Keys" in Windows 7?

I am attempting to use CCD scanner to read bar codes and I need to be able to enter them as text. In Windows XP there was an option for "Use Serial Keys" that would allow this but I can not find it in Windows 7 nor can I find any info on it. Dose this option exist in 7?




Replacement for SerialKeys:


SerialKeys option has been disabled from Windows Vista and later Operating System. In previous versions of Windows, Serial Keys provided support so that alternative input devices, such as augmentative communication devices, could be plugged into the computer's serial port. For individuals that used these devices, it is important to install an alternative solution prior to upgrading to Windows Vista. Recommended solutions: AAC Keys and SKEYS from Eyegaze.
