Unable to set canon pixma mg5350 as a default printer -error code 0x00000709.

Original title:

cannot set canon pixma mg5350 as default printer

When I try to set printer as default, Windows 7 Home Premium comes back with 'unable to set as default - error 0x00000709'.
Cannot find out what this is or what action to take.
Printer driver is latest available from Canon.
Printer works OK otherwise, except that Acrobat 11 refuses to print to it; still looks for older Canon printer now dead and gone.
Thanks.
DJS.

Hi DJS,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community!

Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to try these methods and check the status of the issue.

Method 1:

You may also try to temporarily disable security software from the computer and check.

Disable anti-virus software.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2:

Run the Printer troubleshooter and check the status.

Method 3:

Create a new user account and check if the issue persists.

Create a user account

If the issue is resolved in a new user account then follow the article to copy the files from the existing profile to the new one.
