Problems with my Palm Tungsten E and Windows 7

I have a new laptop with Windows 7, which I'm loving, but I can not get my Palm Tungsten E to connect to it.  Software download was fine, but it states this device is not supported on Windows 7.  It then states "Because this device isn't compatible with this version of Windows, and there are no solutions available for this problem, we recommend that you find another device on the following website: Windows 7 Compatibility Center."  what do I need to do next?  I found my device (I think) and it states it is compatible.  I'm cluless what I need to do to make this backup on my new laptop.

Hi Sarah Zim,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers Community Forums.

Some products will not install properly, and some products will not function as they should.

Since launching Windows 7 in October 22 this year, Microsoft has worked closely with hardware manufacturers and software publishers to address these problems.

In many cases, there is a free upgrade available that will fix compatibility problems with existing devices and programs. In other cases, the manufacturer or publisher has created a new version of a product and you will need to purchase an upgrade directly from them.

To install the incompatible hardware, try the following steps.

1.     Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

2.     From the list of items, click any item, click Action menu and then click on “Add Legacy Hardware” and follow the instructions to install the hardware.

However there is an option that’s available in Windows 7 to install the incompatible software’s and hardware devices successfully. To install any incompatible software, try the following steps.

1.     Copy the software to the hard drive.

2.     Right click on the setup file, click Properties, click Compatibility tab, under compatibility mode, check mark “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)” from the drop down list. Click Apply and then click ok.

3.     Under “Privilege level”, click “Run this program as an administrator”, click apply and then click ok.

4.     Install the software successfully and restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
