Q: No sound after reinstalling Windows 7 This thread is locked from future replies

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 after having some instability problems.  After I did so, I had no sound, either from the PC speakers or from the USB headphones, except that I have a set of headphones called Everyman Headphones which work fine with its driver.  I don't know if this is a contributing factor, but I recently broke the plastic rink around the entry to the headphone port at the front of my Dell 1520 Vostro laptop so can't use it as a plug in device for my separate set of external speakers.

- going to Control Panel->Sound->Playback tab and checking that you speakers are set as the default device.

- go to Control Panel->Troubleshooting and run the Audio Troubleshooter.

- make sure that you have the latest Windows 7 drivers for your sound card.
