Issue with Dell laptop touchpad running Windows 7

I use a laptop. I have Windows 7 on a Dell computer. I use a touchpad most of the time. My cursor goes wild. It goes anywhere it wants to go multiple times as I am typing. It will jump up a line, back a line, in the middle of a previous word, etc. How can I fix this problem?

Hi prezach.  You may be accidentally hitting the touchpad when you type  Some touchpad drivers have a Tap-to-Click feature and this causes similar issues.  Have a look in Mouse Properties in Control Panel and see if there is a Touchpad tab.  If so, disable it (the Tap-to-Click feature - it might also be found as described here http://www.winbookcorp.com/_technote/WBTA00000847.htm (an XP Document but I am sure you get the general idea).  Failing that, a driver update might help or just disable the touchpad driver altogether and connect a USB mouse.
