tigerdipper asked on
trying to access a lexmark printer installed on xp based computer from a laptop running windows7 via a lan.  Although the network is set up correctly, when I run the Windows printer installation I get an error message 'Add printer.  Connect to Printer.  Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x0000007e'  I have just upgraded from Vista using Acer's upgrade kit and had problems in that Windows tried to download the drivers from Lexmark - but couldn't. [the same lexmark printer and configuration worked with no problems before the upgrade on this combination of machines running vista and xp].

I had a similar problem when I tried to connect to a hp printer that was using a Vista driver. Could give this try? Download the Windows 7 driver from Lexmark, install it then try connecting to the printer again.
