Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams
Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary
technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a
Microsoft Agent or
Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an
official
Microsoft global customer service number.
HI! I was wondering if Windows 8 uses the same basic drivers as Windows 7. I was considering dual booting on my older Windows 7 computer that had faulty drivers, to avoid risking my newer computer. Would I be able to dual boot and have different drivers,
or does Windows 8 use the same drivers as Windows 7? On a side note, would this even work, or am I missing some crucial detail?
Windows 8 and Windows 7 share the same driver model. Windows 8 comes with a standard set of class drivers for common hardware devices. Usually, drivers that are preloaded with operating system offer basic functionality and you will need to go to the device
manufacturers website for optimized drivers for the device, this includes devices such as your video card or printer.
Depending on the edition you are running, you can preserve your personal files, applications and settings. Regardless of that, I strongly recommend you dual boot with your existing operating system instead of replacing it with the Windows 8 Release Preview.
The Release Preview is still under heavy development and you should not replace a production copy of Windows with it (whether that be XP, Vista or Windows 7).
