Daily BSOD - I'm getting a blue screen 1 to 2 times a day

Hi there, I posted a while back about this issue and it never went away but the person helping me stopped replying...

Basically what is happening is that I am getting a blue screen of death pretty much 1-2 times a day..

System is set-up like this

Core i7 2600k @4.5 Ghz 1.24v vCore (Bin Increase, not BCLK)
8GB Ripjaws 1600Mhz RAM 9-9-9-24 2T 1.5v (Stock)
1TB WD 7200 RPM 3Gb/s
500GB Seagate 7200 RPM 6Gb/s
64GB Kingston SSD 3Gb/s
Edit: Going to move the SSD to a 3Gb/s plug rather than a 6Gb/s slot.
(All sepearate, no RAID setup)
ASUS P8P67 PRO B3 Stepping revision.  1850 (beta) firmware. Edit: Updated to Ver. 2001
2 AMD Radeon HD 6950, crossfire. No OC.
Cooler Master Silent Pro 850W.
ASUS PCE-N13 Wireless N 2.4 Ghz Card.

That's it for hardware, ambient temperature of about 15-20 C. (hooray for Canada!)
Overclock is stable, Prime95 doesn't bluescreen after 4 Hours of testing. (CPU sits at about 55-60 During test)
Graphics Cards don't go higher than 60 C during load.
Software Running includes: Steam iCloud MSI Afterburner, realtek HD sound manager, Microsoft Security Essentials, Team fortress 2 COD: MW3 Skyrim iTunes Mozilla firefox.

The blue screens happen more when the computer is idle, near everytime i leave it on to go do something I will come back to a frozen blue screen... While Gaming nothing really happens other than the 2-3 times it has happened during gaming...

Thank you for any and all help anyone can offer, I will reply as I see replies... I look forward to fixing this as it is a very new machine and it is disappointing to have it fail like this.

I just checked this, although I never replied back because it was a week after the last post that that man had replied. It is marked as answered now and likely will not be seen as an issue, this post however remains unanswered.

Hi,

You are over-clocking and having regular 124 BlueScreens and those are related. Stop the
over-clocking, revert all back to their defaults and then see if there are still issues. Once you
are sure the problems have been resolved then you can try the over-clocking again. Note that
on today's systems over-clocking even with added and sufficient cooling is not that good of
an idea. The allowed tolerances and margins are just too tight - heat is a big issue however
not the only one that can cause issues when over-clocking.

The most current minidumps might help us to help you.

An open mind and logical troubleshooting methodology are the keys.

Could be heat related - try using a small fan to blow into the air intakes to see if that helps.
Does it just act like it loses power or does it shutdown in a normal manner? Heat related
does not always mean too much heat as it is very possible that something too sensitive
to even normal levels of heat. That it BlueScreens when idle and not when in use is also
an indication of hardware involvement even though that will seem counter intuitive.

Remove ALL power and reseat all cards, memory, and cables (both ends when possible) -
actually remove and replace - do not just snug. Remove the dust bunnies and clean the
vents. Check that the fans work (before and after opening the case). If a laptop about all
you can do is reseat the memory and clean the vents (still can try adding a small fan as a
test).

This sounds like hardware so if the above does not help then you probably need the help
of a real computer shop (not leeks and peeks at a Best Buy or other Big Box Stores) or the
System Maker's Support.

This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though it is
"possible" that it is driver related (rare). Remove ALL power and reseat all cards, memory
and cables (on both ends) - actually remove and replace - do not just snug. Make sure
the system has adequate ventilation - add a small fan blowing into intakes. Carefully
inspect the motherboard and other cards for damage. Pay attention to the fatal hardware
error
 implication.You may need a real computer shop (not leeks and peeks at a BestBuy
or other BigBox stores) or the System maker's Support.

Check the processor seatting, heat sink, and the compound between the processor and
the heat sink which are common causes.

There have been a few instances where Norton/Symantec and other antivirus/security
programs have caused this error.

Here are some methods to possibly fix the blue screen issue. If you could give the Blue Screen
info that would help. Such as the BCC and the other 4 entries on the lower left. And any other
error information such as STOP codes and info such as IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and similar messages.

Many BlueScreens are caused by old or corrupted drivers, especially video drivers however
there are other causes.

You can do these in Safe Mode if needed or from Command Prompt from Vista DVD or
Recovery Options if your system has that installed by the maker.

The log might give you the answer if there was a corrupted driver. (Does not tell all the possible
driver issues).

Also run CheckDisk so we can rule out corruption as much as possible.

This is my generic how to for proper driver updates :

This utility makes it easy to see which versions are loaded :

DriverView - Free - utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
description, version, product name, company that created the driver, and more.

For Drivers check System Maker as fallbacks and Device Maker's which are the most current.
Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - write down the make and complete model
of your video adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click UPdate
Driver (this may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click -
Uninstall - REBOOT this will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat that for Network - Network Card (NIC), Wifi, Sound, Mouse and Keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and any other major device drivers you have.

Now go to System Maker's site (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (as rollback) and then Device
Maker's site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI as examples) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates at System Maker's site while there.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - Right Click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
each installation.

Always check in Device Manager - Drivers tab to be sure the version you are installing actually
shows up. This is because some drivers rollback before the latest is installed (sound drivers
particularly do this) so install a driver - reboot - check to be sure it is installed and repeat as
needed.

Repeat at Device Makers - BTW at Device Makers DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - check
manually by model.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

If you update drivers manually then it is a good idea to disable Driver Installations in Windows
Updates, this leaves Windows Updates ON however it will not install drivers which will usually
be older and cause issues. If Updates suggests a new driver then HIDE it (Right Click on it)
and then go look for new ones manually if you wish.

Memory tests do not catch all errors such as mismatched memory (possible even for sticks
that appear to be identical) and when faster memory is placed in system behind slower memory.
So it is best to also swap sticks in and out to check for those even if all memory tests fail to show
a problem.

To test RAM check here - let it run 4+ hours or so.  <-- best method
