Canon MG5450 can't be set as default printer, error 0x00000709, please help!

Hello MS Community,
I am lost, I tried multiple things to solve this issue but couldn't succeed.

My system is:
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, stable and running well with a score of 5.9

My printer has been installed and removed 3 times already and i tried both installing it as a lan printer or as a USB connected. Right now I have it installed as USB, but this doesn't let me install the printer as default.

First of all the printer is reachable and print successfully from Word, ACDSee and some other apps but is not recognized by Adobe products such as Photoshop & Acrobat and does not print from Excel. I know this error has been discussed in many other threads but yet I couldn't find a fix that worked.

I tried to fix the registry like as instructed here from another topic:

a) Click on Start.
b) Type regedit in the start search and click Enter.
c) Move to the location mentioned below.

              HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

d) In the right column, you will find key Devicechange the value to your Printer name.
e) It is of the format for example: "HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6,winspool,Ne03:".

f)  Right click on the value and click on Rename, change it to your printer name.

When i try to modify the Key it doesn't let me, even if I ran regedit as administrator. It says:

Cannot edit Device: Error writing the value's new contents. I wanted to put there: Canon MG5450 series Printer, winspool, nul:

even if in the example it says winspool,Ne03. I figured I could leave what i had in default.

the i also see another key that is:

Load  REG_SZ   C:\Users\-(my user name here)-\LOCALS~1\Temp\mshikra.bat

this also i dont know what is because if i go to that folder that .bat file is not present.

I also tried this tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/printing_problems/

and when it analyzed it said: Canon MG5400 series Printer is not the default printer, then i clicked fix it and id didn't it said, not succeeded.

Now I dont know what else to do.

The only final thing left to try maybe would be to reset all the settings on the printer (the printer connects to the home network with the wifi password) maybe disable the wireless, wifi option if that is possible. turn it off then, delete again all the entries of the printer and retry to install it, but then maybe into the adminstrator account.

ideas? suggestions?
