Network Printer, same device as local printer, driver not found.

I have installed and tested a Dell P1500 laser print as a local printer.  When I attempt to install the same device as a network printer, the printer is found via the network, but the drivers can not be located.  If I could locate where that driver was installed for the local installation, would it also work for the network installation?

If so, where do I locate the drivers for the locally installed devices?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Lee Hunter,

i.          Click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Hardware and Sound”.

ii.         Click “Add a printer”.

iii.      Choose “Add a local printer” and click on “Create a new port”.

iv.        Select “Local Port” and click “Next”.

v.         Type in "[\\computer name\printer name]" (without quotation marks) for the Port Name and click “OK”. Or you can even put the IP address

Example: If the computer you wish to connect to is named Computer A and the printer is called Printer A then the path would be \\ComputerA\ Printer A

Windows Update finds the printer and finishes the installation. Then run add printer wizard again, choosing network printer and the installation should finish successfully since the printer driver now exists.
