Windows 7 and Nvidia Driver Update for Graphics Card

Today I had something weird happen to my Windows 7 Pro system.  I went and updated my Nvidia Drivers to the new ones that came out today. I removed the old ones and installed new ones. When I went to restart after the start screen came up I got a message telling me that my Windows 7 did not pass the Genuine Advantage. I had to download an activation fix from Microsoft. I didn't have to re-enter my product key. Now this was only an update to my graphics card. What gives?. Why did this happen. Even MS Security Essentials gave me a warning until I applied the activation update.
