cd/dvd drive missing...found it in the flash...

Forgive me... I asked this question in the wrong forum...so here goes in the right place

hp dv6646us laptop

upgraded to windows 7 - retail version 3 or 4 mos ago

just noticed my cd/dvd drive is missing, it is not listed under the device driver

I tried several online fixes to no avail

I plugged in my flash drive which is usually drive G and the drive G flash shows up and the cd/dvd drive E , ALSO !   but the drive E (cd/dvd) shows the flash (again) as the subdirectory.

The usb flash drive works fine and is accessible but even though the drive e (cd/dvd) shows up in the device manager (when my flash is plugged in) I can not access the cd in the drive

I am somewhat computer literate but afraid to mess with too much that I dont know anything about.  Thanks
