I upgrated from Windows XP and now can´t find a driver (*.inf) for use with Windows 7 to access a DCP-165c Brother printer via domestic network.

I had a domestic wireless network with laptops running
Vista and XP. I was able to print wireless to my DCP-165C  printer via
the desktop.
I replaced yhe old desktop (It used Windows XP). The  new one runs
windows 7.
Now I can't make the laptops print at the printer.
The laptops find the printer at the network, but when I start the
process of instaling are new printer the program asks me for a driver
(*.inf) that I don't have. I tried the Brother CD and the software at
brother's site, none worked.

BROTHER answered me:
Dear Brother Customer,
Thank you for taking the time to write us regarding your driver inquiry
for your DCP165C.
To obtain the (*.inf) file needed to share your Brother machine over
your network, you will need to contact your computer vendor or Microsoft
for further assistance.
NOTE: The printer-sharing feature is a function of the operating system.
Although the Brother machine may work with the share printer feature,
Brother cannot guarantee that it will work.
If the Brother machine can be networked, we suggest you employ this
connection method as an alternative to printer sharing.
For assistance with printer sharing, please refer to you computer
manufacturer, network admin, or one of the following links:

Brother wrote the print drivers.   Please confirm that the driver that came with the printer also include the 64bit print driver.

There are two ways to connect wirelessly to the printer.

1) the computer contains a wireless network card
2) you are connecting to a machine sharing the printer.

I assume you are connectinog to a machine sharing the printer and it does not have the print drivers installed for the laptop machines since they are running a 32 bit operating systems and the desktop only has the 64bit print drivers installed.

I assume the print driver name is "Brother DCP-165C"

You will need a 32 version of Windows 7 in order to get a 32 bit version of this print driver name.  I suggest obtaining the BROTHER provided Windows Update version "Brother DCP-165C Printer".  It looks like there is a driver on Windows update that uses this name but it's the print, scan, storage driver.  You can give that a shot if the driver name matches.

When you download and expand the files.  Make sure you setup the driver files  in I386 and AMD64 folders with the inf file and cat file one directory above.  There are a whole bunch of languages available so pick the right driver.

C:\DRIVER    <-this folder contains the inf and cat files
C:\DRIVER\i386  <-this folder contains all the files
