I have an intermittent problem with my MS Wireless keyboard and laser mouse 5000...Windows is not recognizing the receiver in "device manager" and will not allow any updates due to compatibility issues.

My MS wireless has worked then when I re-boot, it will not work.  I cannot find anything consistent about the problem so I can't troubleshoot the issue.  The only consistent thing is that when the device manager is reading a failure on the receiver, I can change ports and it doesn't change anything.  I tried removing the drivers, and installing new drivers but nothing seems to help.
What do I do to get Win 7 device manager to recognize my wireless keyboard and mouse receiver?

Hi daveixoye,

I’d suggest you to check in a different computer to make sure that the hardware device is good and working, if it is not working in a different computer, the issue would have caused due to hardware problem.

Update drivers for your wireless keyboard and mouse and try to resynchronize your device with the receiver by following the steps mentioned in the following Microsoft Knowledgebase article.
