When installing ATI graphics card driver, receive message "Setup your Display adaptor with a standard VGA driver before running setup"

Ok, So while using windows Vista it randomly decided to "delete" my drivers for my ATI graphics card. I then upgraided to windows 7 but when I try to re instal the drivers now with the cd it keeps telling me "Setup your Display adaptor with a standard VGA driver before running setup" Where do I find this adaptor and why hasn't microsoft realized that universal compatability is the way to go?

Hi,

A) Let’s first check for the status of display driver in device manager.

1. Type devmgmt.msc in start search box and hit Enter.

2. In device manager, expand display driver

3. Right click on it, click properties.

4. In general tab, check for the status of the device.

Post back if you find any error code.

B) Additionally, you may uninstall the display driver and reinstall it. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Type devmgmt.msc, press Ok.

2. In device manager, expand display driver > right click on it> click Uninstall.

3. Reboot the computer.

4. The display driver will get installed automatically.

C) Or you may also download and install the latest display drivers from manufacturer’s website or from Windows update site.
