FSX gamespy server is down?

As of around 5pm CST on December 5th, People all around the world were experiencing Problems logging into the

Gamespy server or "Microsoft flight simulator x online,"

Many people around the FSX community are wondering if gamespy finally cut FSX online server support,

although there ARE other methods of playing FSX online such as VATSIM, FShost, etc, This was a much used feature in FSX,

If Gamespy did cut server support, will Microsoft create a new server, or way of playing online?

Please confirm rumors of Gamespy cutting servers,

Thank you

-regards

Thats unfortunate, although like they said on that website, the opportunity is open for someone to actually charge and make an amazing host for FSX,

There is a list of servers that you connect directly to here.

Most of these were on Gamespy before it closed.

Sorry to burst your bubbles but from what i have heard Microsoft told Game spy to close them so.......... IT might not be true but 80% of the people who i spoke to said it was Microsoft. And even Game spy Themselves have said it so.....        i only had 2-3 weeks of FS and then they close the servers i am a recent customer and currently unhappy with this situation.

Here's the official story.  Glu bought Gamespy from IGN.  Glu shut off multiplayer services for most games and offered to re-instate it only if the publisher signed a new, more expensive, agreement.  Most publishers refused to be blackmailed and refused to renew.

Glu bought Gamespy for $2.8 million in August 2012 while IGN had bought Gamespy in 2004 for $54.6 million.  This financial depreciation pushed Glu to try and regain value.  As a freeware mobile game maker for smart phones and tablets, Glu needed space on Gamespy so that it can power Glu games.  By removing multiplayer servers (such as FSX) who refuse to pay the increase, Glu "thinks" it has grounds to remove the service while not realizing that it amounts to Blackmail or extortion.

For those looking to remain up to date with FSX online servers offered by other mediums, check out this website hosted by Boston Virtual ATC.  It lists all online servers and VA's can give them their server IP to be listed as well.  http://www.fsxbeyondgamespy.com/
