Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer (Error 1053)

Windows Search does not work in the start menu nor does IE8 remember URL history anymore.

I have tried the steps in this post (did not work):

I ran an sfc scan, which returned that no integrity issues were detected.  I have also tried disabling the Windows Search feature from "Turn Windows Features on or off", restarted, and tried re-enabling it, without success.

I tried creating a new profile, but the same problem occurred.  I found out that the WSearch service is not running.  When I try to enable it, I receive the following error:

Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer.

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

I have done some searching in the forum, but I was unable to find a solution to this problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
