Windows 7 Search Index Is Unexpectedly Re-set.

I recently noticed that my search function was not producing results that it should have. The results were mainly e-mails. Upon investigating, I found that my index was reduced to 189 items where it should have been in the order of 16,337 items. I tried to rebuild the index several times but it would always stop at 189. I eventually did a system restore and was able to do a rebuild to 16,337 items. A few days later the search index was reduced again to 189 items. Once again, repeated attempts to rebuild the index failed. I had to do a system restore again prior to rebuilding the index.

Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

Hi Anthony,

You may run Windows Search and Indexing troubleshooter built in Windows 7 and check if it helps you fix the indexing issue. Later try to rebuild Index. Access the link below and follow the steps to run Search and Indexing troubleshooter.

Hope this helps. Let us know the results.
