Windows 7 saved files missing but show up on re-save

I've been saving JPEG files of census records for the past couple of days.  Today I needed to access one...and it did not appear in the folder, nor did it show up when I did a search for it.   When I attempted to re-save the file, the whole list of files I've saved for two days showed up, along with the message that I already have a copy, do I want to overwrite it.  Where are my saved files?

Perhaps they are hidden.  Set Windows explorer to show hidden files by

Tools menu [alt-t], Folder options, View then selecting Show hidden files & folders

You'll need to find out why they are being hidden.

1 There was a problem with some versions of McAfee hiding graphics files but I thought that had been fixed by an update - see McAfee TS101228 Windows 7 Library folders are not being displayed

2 Scan for malware
