The target volume does not support symbolic links

Copied some program files from an old Windows 98 computer to a CD.  Put it in a new Windows 7 computer.  Tried to mass ( *.* ) copy, xcopy and robocopy/MIR files from CD to hard drive.  Produced "The target volume does not support symbolic links" and refused to copy certain files. Robocopy reports error 1 (0x00000001) and "Incorrect function." on these files.  These same files copied with no problems to an old XP computer that lunched it's hard drive.

Searched high and low.  No answer.  Baffled.

Anyone?

Hi Heifetz,

I would suggest you to compress the files on Windows 98 and copy the files to Windows 7 using XCopy commands and then decompress the files.

Windows 7 has in-built software to compress files but as Windows 98 does not, you may install any third-party compressing software and make sure you use the same software to decompress the files.

NOTE: Microsoft cannot guarantee or recommend you the products about the brand and the model number of the computer and its hardware.  This entirely depends upon the user’s requirement and choice.
