RDPCLIP.EXE file missing from startup (system32 dir). Unable to do system restore due to unspecified missing file.

Windows 7 (new machine, not update). Autoruns indicates that file RDPCLIP.EXE cannot be located on startup. This file usually resides in folder System32. Unable to do system restore from earlier time due to unspecified missing file (rdpclip.exe?). System seems to be runnuing normally except these two issues. Occassional freezes (once while renaming folder in downloads). How do I get
new file restored for Windows 7 version?

Note: CLIP.exe is in System32 directory.

Answer

Hi bigdome6984,

If your machine acts as a Terminal Server, i.e. someone else connects to your machine using Remote Desktop, then rdpclip.exe will be loaded on your machine as part of the Terminal Server functionality.

RDSCLIP is loaded on the machine allowing other machines to connect via Remote Desktop.

It should be found under the following registry location:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd\StartupPrograms

Important Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hope this helps!
