I am unable to decrypt the encrypted files after reformatting the hard drive.

I backed up the my documents folder before having to reinstall windows. Some files were encrypted accidently after having reformatted the hard drive, my backup files from it won't recognize me as original owner of the encrypted folders and i can not clear the encrypt data check box

Hi JK_956,

Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forums.

You have an issue with decrypting the backed up files on Windows 7. It can be difficult when something that is important to you does not work as expected. It is pretty simple and we are here to help you fix the issue. We will work as a team and get this sorted out.

Please answer these questions-

1)    What exactly happens when you try to decrypt the files?

2)    Do you get any error message or error code?

3)    Have you made any other changes on the computer prior to the issue?

I would like more information regarding the issue.
