How Do I Change Default Windows 7 Zipped folder columns

Other than that silly "lock" when I create some zips or folder, I don't have a problem with Windows 7 folders except for this one thing:

How do I set the DEFAULT columns to be used for compressed (zip) folders.  I can change a folder and it seems to remember but every time I create a new one, it insists on using Type and Password columns for the zip.  I have type turned off for general folders, why would I set them in a zip?

I can set the default columns for any other kind of "folder", why not a zipped folder?

Is there an answer to this?

Thanks,

Hi Dragon L,

I see that you have some issues with zipped folder. I will help you with this issue.

1.What is the make and model of the computer?

2.Which security software is installed on the computer?

3.Did you make any changes to the computer recently?

4.Which application or program are you using to zip the folders?

Method 1.

Boot the computer in safe mode and check if that helps.

Advanced startup options (including safe mode): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

If the issue does not occur in safe mode, then proceed with the clean boot state.

A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application service or startup item is causing this issue.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow step 3 in the article to boot to normal startup.

Method 2.

You can run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is free from viruses.

Microsoft Safety Scanner: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Safety Scanner Disclaimer: There could be a loss of data while performing a scan using Microsoft safety scanner to eliminate viruses if any.

Try these steps and let us know the status.

Thanks.

Srimadhwa B,

This is a NEW (just over a month old) HP Pavilion computer.  I am using MSE for the security and this problem was noted from day one with this machine.

I am zipping using windows explorer.  I often use 7-zip to extract a zip but the creation is ALWAYS done with explorer itself.

Once I have "fixed" a zip, it stays but I have hundreds if not thousands of zips on this computer.  I keep my data zipped to make the anti-virus runs faster as well as to make it easier to back it up.

I right-click and select to make a compressed folder.  I look at it (before I have even added anything to it) and those 2 columns are there (Type and password).

There is no problems with the zips -- just the continuing extreme irritation of having to fix them - even new ones I create.  I can somewhat see that the ones I copied in from elsewhere have been "pre-set" using settings when the machine was built.

What I want to do is CHANGE those presets so that at least the NEW ones I create don't have those two columns.

HOW do I DO THAT????
