"FILE TYPE" TAB NOT FOUND IN "FOLDER OPTION"

I am using newly installed Window 7 Professional version 6.1.  I want to click some files link on web and need to specify & open them in Excel.  As such, I need to edit the file type tab in Folder option in order to click & open the file by default in Excel program.  However, I did not find the tab to do editing.  Is there any other ways to change this settings or I have missed some components during setup to make said tab available ?

Rgds,

Frankie

Answer

There is no file tab in Folder options. You would find it under view tab as files and folders.

Change file associations

1. In the Search programs and files type folder options and click the "Folder Options" link that appears.

2. In the "Folder Options" dialog box , select "View" tab.

3. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

4. Click "OK"

Now you would be able to see the file extension along with it's name which can be easily changed

Hi Frankie,

this feature was removed with Vista. Use this cool tool to bring the feature back:
